    A job well done !

This handsome 40-track collection is the perfect reminder that the Stones really once were the best rock'n'roll band in the world. The first CD contains all their well-worn 60s classics and is the one most casual listeners will really want to have. But don't overlook the second disc. It does an excellent job of plucking out the more worthy material from the band's decidedly more erratic last three decades - and also squeezes in four new songs which are surprisingly good.

    Rock on!

What Can u say? The perfect introduction to THE greatest band of all! Most bands are lucky to write one great song in their lifetimes, there are at least 12 masterpieces on this compilation. Should be a staple of any CD collection. Would have preferred the more creative stuff from 1967-71 rather than the popular hits BUT they're all top toons! Rock on!

    Great!

Good collection. These tunes have inspired most of the great rock bands, from the Black Crowes to Guns N Roses, through to Aerosmith to Bon Jovi to...everybody else!

    Buy It!

Wet lips, keef, ronnie, dead drummer and the other guy rock. Load up their pension fund and buy it now.

A bit predictable in the track selection, but still enjoyable.

    Worth it

Great collection from the best live rock 'n' roll band ever ...

Mostly great, but not the ultimate collection of the Stones it could have been

As a huge Rolling Stones fan I can't help but feel slighted by "Forty Licks". This was a wonderful opportunity to put the Stones 40 greatest songs on one set and instead its just another chance to make some money and put out a few new mediocre songs. Its hard to argue the greatness of the music however, since 75% of the songs are some of the greatest rock ever made. The rest are, shall I say, slightly lacking. That the classics such as As Tears Go By, Time is on My Side, Can You Hear Me Knocking, Heart of Stone and Play with Fire are not included proves that these are not the 40 greatest Stones songs. I also could have done without their weak singles from the 80s (not including Start Me Up). So until the "Greatest Rock Band in the World" decides to really put a collection of their greatest music together, I suggest sticking with the classic albums and wait for something better.

The Greatest Rock Band In The World?

What? They arn't the best rock band in the world. The only rock
songs that rock are Start Me Up and Shattered. What's the point?
They used to play punk back in the 60's. They were never the best
rock band in the world. Or maybe they are, they are a great band
but they are way better than the Who. The Beatles suck!

    Their satanic majesties!

This band is a true rock legend. They have conveyed through four decades all the rage, enjoyment and sinister fascination with an unusual display of kinetic energy in his featured performances, an original repertoire of hard to beat themes. They combine that primordial expression of tacit violence and admirable sense of the stage with admirable moving themes supported by this man in flames Mick Jagger, the living soul and perpetual image of this cult band.
Forty licks was the final result of a long wait by most of people who grew up , sung and danced practically every one of their unforgettable and classic milestones pieces.
From Satisfaction-designed as the Number One Rock theme in the XX century-, the irresistible rhythm of Sympathy for the devil, the immortal Jumpin ' Jack Flash, the unbeatable Paint in black, the famous She is like a rainbow, the ever classic Angie, the fabulous Brown Sugar, the always reminded ruby Tuesday, the fantastic Get off my cloud and the sensitive Lady Jane, just to name some of their remarkable
Somehow they have been three jumps ahead the rest of the most of fashion groups, their versatility, innovative proposals and inspired moods, have allowed them to reach with all fairness, one the supreme places in the immortal Rock Pantheon many age.
Go for these treasured songs.

THE ONLY STONES ALBUM YOULL EVER NEED!

this has 40 awesome[mostly] songs by the stones.ive hardly ever bought a greatest hits album with every single greatest hit on it.these guys were once known as the evil beatles.however, this ones got em.starting out its "street fighting man" and "gimme shelter".theyre ok.then "i cant get no satisfaction".that song was actualy banned in the 60s as being too sexualy explicit.then theres "the last time".they played that on ed sullivan and it was considered one of the greatest rock performances of all time."jumpin jack flash" this song is a real gas.weird al samples a bit of it on his song polkas on 45.then the really pretty "you cant always get what you want" comes on. then "19th nervous breakdown".this was kind of a pre-cursor to stuff like the ramones who frequently did songs about thier mental health."under my thumb" rolls up.this is about mick jagger and all the booty he was getting."not fade away" is alright."have you seen your mother baby standing in the shadows" was a good one.then my all time favorite rolling stones tune "sympathy for the devil" plays.ozzy osbourne covered it splendidly.on the old record if you play it backwards it says "i am the devil too.there can only be one devil.so one of us must go." "mothers little helper" comes on about valium addiction.i always thought this was like a evil lady madonna.[going with the whole evil beatles thing].then the psycadelic songs come on like "shes a rainbow".it has a cool little piano bit on it.then, continuing with the psycadelia, theres "hey you get off my cloud".then the album changes gears and goes ballad with "wild horses".then another excellent song called "ruby tuesday".a ruby tuesday was anything legal or otherwise that would perk you up all mixed into a big drink designed to get kieth richards off the couch and onto stage.some ingredients might include cocaine, speed, caffiene, sugar, coffee grounds..........stuff like that.then the very dark "paint it black".this song is depressing. then a partying song called "honky tonk women".she blew his nose and then she blew his mind."its all over now" continues on with the awesome hits.then the song that caused a huge stink back in the 60s.it was thier second song to be banned for being too sexy called "lets spend the night together".i mean, come on, its not like the 2 live crews [very funny]me so horny or anything!then another song about drugs called "start me up".to kick off disc 2.i told you every cool song was here.then another one which some people say is about drugs and some say is about a black chick."brown sugar".its funny how all those old hippies always say you cant remember the 60s but then spout off all these facts.well, whose to say?maybe he did the heroin and the black chick."miss you" is one you hear a lot.then, from thier album some girls, theres "beast of burden".its pretty popular.then theres "dont stop"."happy"..........then the real sad "angie".i like tori amos's version better.since its a love song by a chick to a chick."you got me rocking" comes on.i guess im more of a 1960s stones guy.i recognize less and less of them from disc 2 despite all my many favorites being included.but "shattered" comes on.he screams the word sex a whole bunch.its funny."fool to cry" and "love is strong" come and go.then they jump up to thier record breaking steel wheels tour.the greatest tour of all time money wise when they got back together.it was called "mixed emotions".the next 5 i dont really play a lot.then theres another of my all time favorites.probably my second favorite called "its only rock and roll but i like it".then it ends ironicly with a song called "losing my touch".disc one is way better than 2.theres 15 out of 20 that are stupendous from the 1st one.theres 7 out of 20 i play a lot from disc 2.so thats,in my humble opinion,22 out of 40 good licks to be had here.but even a bad lick is still kind of good.
